The Mills and Chimeneers:
David Gibb: With an incisive voice of extravagant range and instrumental skills covering acoustic guitar, ukelele, mandolin and the occasional kazoo, David combines energy with talent in live situations, recording and in songwriting. David, along with Elly has been a BBC Radio 2 Folk award finalist and, amongst other things, has released a children's songs album with some exciting collaborators.
Elly Lucas: Elly's talents manifest themselves in a great voice, excellent fiddle playing and canny songwriting ability. Elly is also making a name for herself in the photographic world and has been a BBC Radio 2 folk award finalist.
Lucy Ward: Lucy, born and bred in Derby, has a strident, engaging stage presence with a voice to match. Songwriting skills and an affinity with the harmonium also feature on her extensive musical CV. Lucy won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Music Horizon award in 2012 and was a finalist for folk singer of the year at the same awards in 2014.
Sarah Matthews: A fiddler of mercurial talents with a pure voice, Sarah has now established herself firmly as a fine songwriter too. Sarah has played with many musicians in Derbyshire and in many different bands and projects. Sarah currently also plays in many other collaborations including Cupola with her partner Doug Eunson and Oli Matthews and with Cupola Ward which includes the addition of the above mentioned Lucy Ward!
Julian Butt: Heralding from Staffordshire but now a naturalized citizen of Derbyshire, Julian has been a prominent feature on the musical landscape of this county for many years working in numerous incarnations and projects. Julian's main instrument now is his beloved accordion but he is adept on keyboards and guitar too as well as his vocal and well honed songwriting abilities.
Mike Smith: Sheffield born Mike has played guitar for longer than he cares to admit to and in recent years has developed his mandolin playing as well as his songwriting skills. Mike, along with fellow chimeneer Julian, is also part of the triumvirate which is Matt Black and the Brothers of Beeley Moor - this outfit, headed by ex Derbyshire poet laureate, Matt, offer a fusion of original poetry and music.
